10 Minute Writing #12

Today when watching the movies in English class I realized what copying was. Throughout the whole process of learning to write in school we learned that if you took someone’s idea that was copying, and to make it okay you had to source your resource. Today from the videos we watched I learned most things that we think are original are not. These things are movies, books, music, products, and so on. When I listen to old music such as Led Zeppelin I always thought it was original, and boy was I wrong. I was so surprised to learn most of the songs were slightly copied in one way or another. Another thing that surprised me was Star Wars using a form of copying. I never thought this film would takes ideas from other movies! I guess the films we watched to today just proves our world is formed around copying other ideas and products. Although we do copy others products I learned sometimes it’s not on purpose. When song writers add background music to a song, they may not know they are using music from an older song. Sometimes in our brains we think it is original, but it is not. So overall today I learned we have to be careful about copying in our papers for school. We have to learn to use more of our own ideas, rather than copying from others. Although copying is a broad word, this meaning we can use others ideas. We still can’t take the complete idea; we have to put it into our own words. This is what I took from the videos, I hope everyone seen it the same way as me.
